Aethren are mortal people whose lineages carry a persistent connection to divine power. Known bloodlines trace their origins to direct contact with gods, divine servants, or the influence of divine realms, though the original event may lie many generations in the past. The form that inheritance takes varies considerably depending on the power involved.
Aethren are too uncommon to have formed a civilization of their own. They are usually born into the societies of other peoples and share the language, customs, and loyalties of the places where they are raised. Religious traditions often attach significance to an Aethren birth, particularly when the traits resemble the imagery of a locally important god.
The Sundering greatly reduced direct divine interaction with Kor Sirok, but older bloodlines survived and exceptional new divine relationships remain possible. Modern Aethren therefore occur throughout the world in small numbers rather than being concentrated in a particular homeland.
