Game Rules: Use standard Minotaur ancestry rules
Minotaurs are an old people of Auslura, with their largest concentrations in the continent’s interior valleys, forest margins, and colder open country. They are less strongly associated with the great mountain heights than the Goliaths and Dragonborn of the highlands, but many Minotaur communities occupy the broad valleys and lower country between mountain systems and the primeval forests that cover large portions of the continent. Even these lower regions can be harsh by the standards of other continents, and communities must account for severe winters and the unusually large and dangerous creatures for which Auslura is known.
Minotaur settlements tend to be permanent villages and small towns rather than highly mobile camps. In regions where the land permits it, communities combine herding, hunting, forestry, and limited agriculture, adapting the balance to local climate and terrain. The severe winters and long distances found across much of Auslura encourage careful storage, durable construction, and cooperation between neighboring settlements. Routes through dense forests, snowbound valleys, and sparsely inhabited country can be as important as the settlements themselves, and many communities maintain trails and waystations that have been used for generations.
There has never been a single Minotaur state or ancestry-wide culture on Auslura. Their relatively concentrated population has nevertheless allowed neighboring communities to maintain stronger shared traditions than are typical of peoples spread across several continents. Regional customs can extend through clusters of settlements connected by trade, marriage, seasonal gatherings, and common routes, while communities separated by mountain chains or great forests may differ considerably from one another.
Place in Auslura
Minotaurs have lived alongside the other peoples of Auslura for a very long time. Their communities have traded and competed with human settlements, mountain peoples, and coastal societies as those populations expanded through the continent. Because much of Auslura remains difficult to settle, many older Minotaur communities have persisted in valleys and forest-edge regions that never developed into large urban centers.
Modern Minotaurs can also be found outside their traditional population centers, particularly in larger settlements and ports where regional trade draws people together. Those communities remain a minority compared with their populations in the Ausluran interior, and the ancestry continues to be strongly associated with the continent in the wider imagination of Kor Sirok.
