A Tawasuyo is the governor of one of the four Apekkos of the Qoraokllo Empire. The office is traditionally held by a Theryn and combines regional administration, political leadership, and responsibility for maintaining the systems that keep mountain communities provisioned and connected.
Tawasuyos oversee the officials responsible for assessed labor, public storehouses, infrastructure, militia organization, and other regional obligations. The difficulty of communication across Qoraokllo’s terrain gives them broad discretion in ordinary government, although they remain subordinate to the Tawaquatinsuyo and can be overruled by the sovereign.
The four Tawasuyos sit on the central council in Quechko alongside the archpriest of Kua and appointed advisers. Their support can be especially important during a succession, when several members of the ruling lineage may possess credible claims to become the next Tawaquatinsuyo. A powerful Tawasuyo therefore occupies an unusual position: unquestionably a servant of the imperial throne, but also one of the few officials with enough regional authority to shape who next occupies it.
