The Goldtongue Clan is one of the five ruling clans of Krynhold and holds one seat on the Council of Five Hammers. The clan is traditionally associated with fine metalwork, goldsmithing, jewelry, accumulated wealth, and the patronage made possible by that wealth. Krynhold’s reputation for exceptional goldwork owes much to workshops and families associated with the Goldtongues.
The Goldtongues have historically been among the wealthiest interests in the kingdom. Their resources allow them to finance workshops, extend credit, support political allies, and influence projects whose costs exceed what another clan or household can easily bear. For that reason, Goldtongue backing has often mattered greatly in contests over which clan becomes the leading force within the Council.
That influence is political rather than constitutional. Goldtongues do not possess extra votes because of their wealth, and other clans and independent craftspeople also work precious metals. Their importance comes from the network of obligations, investments, clients, and partnerships built around generations of successful craft and finance.
The political realignment of 8753 SE changed the coalition structure within Krynhold but did not diminish the basic importance of Goldtongue wealth. Any government that intends to rule the city effectively must still account for the economic interests gathered around the clan.
