The Silverhammer Clan is one of the five ruling clans of Krynhold and holds one Hammer on the Council of Five Hammers. Its strongest traditional interests lie in mercantilism, long-distance trade, surface agriculture, and the movement of goods between the mountain kingdom and neighboring states.
Silverhammer agents and affiliated families have long been prominent among the merchants, factors, caravan organizers, and surface holdings that support Krynhold’s economy. Because the underground city depends upon outside supplies as well as the export of ore and finished goods, those networks give the clan political influence far beyond the number of people directly engaged in trade under the Silverhammer name.
The Silverhammers do not legally control all commerce in Krynhold, nor are clan members restricted to mercantile occupations. Their position comes from generations of accumulated relationships, property, experience, and patronage. Political changes within the Council therefore alter whom the Silverhammers cooperate with, but do not eliminate the economic power on which their Hammer rests.
