Cain Cailean is a Cain of the Skyre Folk associated with Inis Cailean, the southernmost of the major Skyre Islands. The Cain appears prominently in early Asnor traditions because attempts by the first generations of Asnor settlers to establish themselves on the island ended in disaster.
Asnor accounts claim that one of Brynjolf Erobreren’s sons led an unsuccessful settlement attempt on Inis Cailean and that Brynjolf later died after returning to the island during the resulting conflict. Those stories are central to Asnor political mythology surrounding the Stadtholdership and the Mantle of Rektesh, but they preserve the Asnor version of events rather than a complete Skyre account.
In later centuries Asnorland continued to claim Inis Cailean through the titles of its Stadtholder without establishing durable control over the island. Cain Cailean therefore occupies an unusual place in relations between the two peoples: it is associated with territory claimed ceremonially by Asnorland but not effectively governed by it.
