Relvan Ariessus was a member of the Ariessus family whose fate became entangled with the conflict between Luther Mortanas and the Brass Blades in the early 8750s SE. During that conflict, Relvan became afflicted with vampirism. Surviving accounts do not establish the precise circumstances under which the condition was imposed, but curing him became one of the principal objectives of the rebuilt Brass Blades after the destruction of the Brass Bastion.
Relvan’s brother, Darieth Ariessus, was led by a vision to seek an answer in the Iron City, on the Second Depth of Vharath. There, Darieth negotiated with Azradel, chamberlain to Vezhuran, the Master of Appointments. In exchange for infernal assistance, Darieth voluntarily surrendered the eventual claim to his own soul and accepted future service under Vezhuran’s authority.
An Elder Succubus appointed through Odravos possessed the specialized knowledge needed to separate Relvan from the supernatural condition sustaining his vampirism. Her intervention severed the supernatural condition that had transformed and sustained Relvan as a vampire. The bargain that made the cure possible remained Darieth’s obligation rather than Relvan’s.
After his recovery, Relvan provided the Brass Blades with further information about Mortanas. That information contributed to the Blades’ growing suspicion that Mortanas’s influence extended beyond Elgaard and into the developing conflicts around the Djozanates of the Kenai Mountains. Relvan’s recovery thus became both a personal victory for the Ariessus family and an important step in the wider investigation that eventually exposed Mortanas’s centuries-long trafficking of stolen mortal souls into Vharath.
