Inis Markul is a mountainous major island in the northern part of the central Skyre Islands. Its broken highlands and river-cut slopes distinguish it from several of the lower islands nearby, while its mineral deposits have made it economically important to Asnorland. The island is especially known for copper production, including the exceptionally productive mines associated with Waeldstone.
Inis Markul is an Asnor Thegndom and is traditionally associated with Cain Braoin of the Skyre Folk. The Asnor settlements of Hammerheim and Waeldstone occupy different parts of the island’s developed coast, while Skyre communities retain their own presence away from the principal mining and port settlements. The combination of steep terrain, mining wealth, and access to the surrounding sea has given local rulers resources disproportionate to the island’s size.
That wealth became politically important during the Asnor Succession War of 8723 SE, when Thegn Ulrik Lindvig of Inis Markul attempted to claim the Stadtholdership. His ability to draw upon the island’s resources helped turn a succession dispute into a wider war among the Thegndoms before his eventual defeat.
