Hersir is the title borne by the leader of the Crimson Company. The word is an old Asnor martial title that once had broader use, but it has otherwise fallen out of ordinary political and military practice. Its survival within the Company reflects the organization’s claim to traditions reaching back to the earliest generations of Asnorland.
The Hersir coordinates major hunts and other large operations, oversees Company resources, represents the Reds in dealings with rulers and institutions, and exercises authority over questions of membership and discipline. Day-to-day contracts are often handled by individual members or smaller groups, so the Hersir does not personally direct every Company undertaking.
Kodiak Popo held the office during the early 8750s SE. The oldest recorded Hersir is Mattenson Jaeger, whose life is obscured by legend and whose association with the Company may reach back to the first Asnor settlements in the Skyre Islands.
