Saajid Taiss was the brother of Akari Taiss and an adherent of the Cult of the Stars during the movement’s final ascendancy in Huraz. By 8753 SE, the Cult had accumulated enough influence among tribal leaders and the increasingly centralized institutions of Qaranth to push the Confederation toward open conflict with Tadrium. Saajid’s involvement brought the crisis into direct contact with Akari and, through her, the Brass Blades.
The degree to which Saajid understood the Cult’s deepest plans is uncertain. The movement publicly presented itself as a restorationist political and religious cause, while its final leader, Zhaken Amberheart, pursued a much more dangerous ritual involving the Rift Spar and the Nascent Expanse. Surviving accounts do not establish whether Saajid understood that Amberheart intended to establish the relationship that Othrazhul ultimately exploited.
With Akari’s assistance, the Brass Blades traced the Cult’s leadership to a pyramid east of Qaranth. There they found Amberheart conducting the ritual and using Saajid as a sacrifice. The Blades could not prevent the working from opening the way for Othrazhul’s intrusion into Kor Sirok’s physical universe, though they eventually defeated the immediate manifestations of the crisis and banished the transformed Amberheart from the pocket realm in which the confrontation occurred.
Saajid was later resurrected. He was returned to Akari’s care and underwent deprogramming after his time in the Cult. The need for deprogramming indicates that the Cult’s influence on him continued beyond the ritual itself, but the surviving material does not establish how voluntary his initial commitment had been or how much of Amberheart’s actual purpose he understood before his death and resurrection.
