The Rift Spar was fashioned by drawing a pattern of mutable possibility from the Nascent Expanse into Creation and forcing it to persist within an anchoring structure of continuity. The result was less a conventional weapon or tool than a controlled weakness in the defenses surrounding Kor Sirok bound into physical form. When handled successfully, it could establish breaches and relationships across boundaries, states, and moments that ordinary planar magic could not reach. Those same properties made failure capable of producing consequences far beyond the immediate wielder.
The Rift Spar was located in an extraplanar space accessed through a well in Nmothusin in 8751 SE and was recovered by Abendigo and the Brass Blades. It was taken to Mount Caraphat, one of the ancient works that helped maintain the Twilight Veil around Kor Sirok. Believing he was preventing plans already in motion by Zhaken Amberheart, Abendigo used the Rift Spar within the mountain. The result destroyed Mount Caraphat’s protective work and weakened the Twilight Veil in the region.
In 8753 SE, agents of Zhaken Amberheart acquired the Rift Spar from Abendigo. Zhaken later used it during the ritual that established a relationship with Othrazhul, allowing the Primordial Change Spirit to become increasingly present around Kor Sirok and initiating the Harrowing. The artifact’s role in these events became entangled with an exceptional closed temporal sequence involving Abendigo and the Brass Blades, so descriptions of exactly when a particular use of the Spar occurred can be misleading when stated as a simple linear history.
During the final confrontation, the Brass Blades defeated the Aspect of Othrazhul. Davrek Valzorwyn then drove the Rift Spar into the Aspect’s heart. The resulting release destroyed the Aspect and Othrazhul’s moon-like manifestation, severed the relationship sustaining the entity’s intrusion into Creation, and forced Othrazhul back beyond Creation. Davrek was killed by the release.
The Rift Spar itself survived. It fell from the collapsing manifestation and struck the mortal Abendigo like a meteor. The resulting eruption of temporal and metaphysical force immediately preceded his transformation into the god of time. The artifact remains in Abendigo’s possession in the present age, making it both a surviving relic of the Harrowing and one of the few known objects directly associated with a mortal’s apotheosis.
