Mount Caraphat was the site of one of the ancient works that helped maintain the Twilight Veil around Kor Sirok. Whatever the full original design of that protection, the installation within the mountain remained important enough in the ninth millennium SE that damaging it could weaken the Veil across the surrounding region.
In 8751 SE, Abendigo and the Brass Blades brought the Rift Spar to Mount Caraphat after recovering the artifact from Nmothusin. Abendigo believed that using the Spar there would prevent plans already in motion by Zhaken Amberheart. Instead, the artifact’s poorly understood relationships with time, continuity, and the boundaries around Kor Sirok catastrophically interacted with the mountain’s protective work.
The resulting event destroyed Mount Caraphat’s installation and devastated the mountain itself. More importantly, it damaged the Twilight Veil in the region. That weakness later became one of several conditions that allowed Zhaken’s 8753 SE attempt to reach toward the Nascent Expanse to develop into the Harrowing.
Mount Caraphat is therefore remembered less as an isolated disaster site than as part of the chain of failures that exposed a weakness in protections most mortals had assumed were effectively permanent. The catastrophe also marked one of the earliest known occasions on which the Rift Spar demonstrated that its effects could extend far beyond the intention of its wielder.
