Nmothusin is a settlement in Tadrium whose recent history became entangled with the Rift Spar and the events leading toward the Harrowing. In 8751 SE the Brass Blades traveled there after finding a reference to the place on an obelisk beneath Krynhold. Their arrival led them into a series of discoveries that revealed the town was connected to far older magical activity than its ordinary appearance suggested.
The Blades found a crypt containing artifacts attributed to an ancient magic user named Talora, including a staff capable of teleportation and a strange key. The key opened a concealed chamber associated with the town well, through which the party reached an extraplanar space containing the Rift Spar. The artifact was removed and later taken to Mount Caraphat, where its use caused catastrophic damage to the Twilight Veil.
Accounts of the expedition also describe the townsfolk as behaving strangely and record a vision or manifestation of an immense otherworldly tentacle emerging from the sea beside the settlement after the Spar was recovered. Talora’s key and the concealed access were deliberate safeguards intended to keep the Rift Spar separated from ordinary use. The relationship between those protections, the behavior of the townsfolk, and what the Blades witnessed offshore remains unresolved.
Nmothusin also appears in older folklore concerning Vrystna. One widespread tale claims that she once cast the settlement into prolonged darkness, leaving its inhabitants unable to know when ordinary night would end. Whether the story preserves an actual event is uncertain, but the legend predates the town’s much better documented connection to the Rift Spar.
