Talora was a mortal sorceress of the early Shattered Era who spent much of her life beyond Kor Sirok in extraplanar spaces. She became the adopted daughter of Baba Yaga and is remembered chiefly for her efforts to protect the mortal world from dangers connected to the Nascent Expanse. Her mortal birthplace and the circumstances that first carried her beyond the physical world are not preserved in surviving accounts.
Talora’s work appears to have focused less on destroying such threats outright than on preventing dangerous powers and pathways from being used carelessly. The surviving evidence at Nmothusin suggests that she understood the Rift Spar to be extraordinarily dangerous and deliberately placed layers of separation and controlled access around it. A strange key among the relics attributed to her opened a concealed chamber associated with the town well, through which later explorers reached the extraplanar space where the Spar had been hidden. A staff capable of teleportation was preserved in the same crypt.
Legacy at Nmothusin
By 8751 SE, Talora herself belonged to distant history, but the safeguards and relics she left behind remained functional. The Brass Blades reached Nmothusin after finding a reference to the settlement beneath Krynhold and discovered Talora’s crypt while investigating the town. Their use of her key ultimately gave them access to the Rift Spar, beginning a chain of events that led through Mount Caraphat, the damage to the Twilight Veil, and eventually the Harrowing.
The surviving record does not establish whether Talora created the extraplanar chamber that held the Spar, discovered an existing secure location and adapted it, or understood the artifact’s full origin. What is clear is that the arrangement was meant to keep the Spar separated from ordinary access rather than display it as one of her personal treasures. The strange behavior reported among the people of Nmothusin and the immense otherworldly tentacle seen or perceived after the Spar’s removal have never been conclusively connected to Talora herself.
Talora’s relationship with Baba Yaga places her within a much wider world of extraplanar travel and dangerous magic, but little else about their life together has survived. Her eventual fate is unknown.
