Baba Yaga, known by the ancient title Queen of Hags, is an extraordinarily old and powerful hag associated with Caelra. The title is not known to represent a literal office or universal rulership over other hags. Her ultimate origin, the source of her power, and much of her history remain unrecorded in the surviving material.
Her home is the Dancing Hut, an extraordinary dwelling normally associated with Caelra. The hut is not permanently fixed to one location and can appear in other places or realities by means that remain poorly understood. Reaching it deliberately can require unusual rituals or other exceptional means. Visitors have also found that its interior does not behave like an ordinary physical structure; the Brass Blades traveled through seemingly endless rooms before reaching Baba Yaga herself.
Talora
By the early Shattered Era, Baba Yaga had adopted the mortal sorceress Talora as her daughter. Talora spent much of her life in extraplanar spaces and later became known for safeguarding Kor Sirok against dangers connected to the Nascent Expanse. The surviving record does not explain why Baba Yaga adopted her, how long they lived together, or how directly Baba Yaga participated in Talora’s work.
The Brass Blades
The best documented modern encounter with Baba Yaga occurred in the early 8750s SE. With the help of Rof Riverflame, the Brass Blades learned a ritual capable of reaching the Dancing Hut. After navigating its seemingly endless interior, they reached Baba Yaga and were offered extraordinary rewards, including wishes and the opportunity to draw from an enchanted deck of cards whose individual draws produced bizarre and unpredictable effects. The encounter imposed severe costs as well as benefits.
Tusky succeeded in restoring the damaged mind of his mentor, Fenro, while Abendigo obtained an object that later opened as a door into Morgrom. That passage became the next stage of Abendigo’s search for the knowledge needed to travel through time.
The surviving account does not establish Baba Yaga’s motive for aiding the Blades, how much she understood of their larger goals, or whether she anticipated the role her gifts would play in the events leading toward the Harrowing.
