The Grand Cathedral of Anadesia is one of Arkrist’s major religious institutions and the city’s most prominent sanctuary devoted to Anadesia. The visible cathedral stands over extensive catacombs containing old clerical burials, sealed crypts, devotional texts, and layers of construction from different periods of Arkrist’s history.
The catacombs extend into structures much older than the present cathedral. During investigations in 8793 SE, passages beneath the complex were found to connect with ancient draconic ruins built below the cathedral’s foundations. Carvings there depict serpentine dragons and wingless wyrms associated with religious traditions predating the city’s current pantheon. Similar architectural elements were later identified beneath College-controlled property elsewhere in Arkrist, suggesting that the buried complex is larger than a single temple foundation.
The same investigation uncovered a hidden ritual site used by a cult operating within the cathedral’s depths. The site contained a stepped stone structure, cages for prisoners, and evidence of sacrificial magic. The discovery demonstrated how Arkrist’s oldest subterranean layers can pass beneath modern institutions without being understood by the people who live above them.
