The Drakefire Peninsula extends from eastern Aesala south of Entwood and east of the southern reaches of the Kenai Mountains. It is best known as the homeland of Arkrist, one of the largest cities on Kor Sirok, and the surrounding Protectorate of Arkrist. Arkrist stands at the northern end of the peninsula, where access to the sea and the Kairos River helped support the city’s long growth.
The peninsula is not uniformly settled. The Hercynian Forest dominates much of its western portion, while Arkrist’s political influence extends south through the Protectorate as far as Istrus. The Gulf of Keravnos lies along the peninsula’s southern side and helps mark the transition toward the humid jungles, wetlands, and coastlands of the Scalded Coast.
Several smaller cities and towns occupy the river and coasts beyond Arkrist. Thermeira lies along the Kairos River in swampy trade country south of the capital. Tarentum is a coastal port known for maritime commerce, nightlife, and a significant illicit Starshine trade. Squall’s End is a much smaller storm-beaten settlement on the eastern coast, while Mesus serves a rural province whose old estates and logging roads reach into quieter country away from the major trade routes.
Dragonborn migrants from Auslura founded Arkrist thousands of years ago, and their descendants remain deeply associated with the peninsula’s political history. Over the centuries, however, the region around Arkrist became increasingly diverse, particularly in the larger settlements tied to the city’s trade and administration. Ancient ruins found beneath Arkrist, along the coast near Squall’s End, and elsewhere on the peninsula also show that the region’s settled history is much older and more complicated than Arkrist’s surviving civic records alone would suggest.
