The Gulf of Keravnos lies along the southern side of the Drakefire Peninsula in Aesala. It forms part of the northern boundary of the Scalded Coast, where the milder lands associated with Arkrist give way toward humid jungle, wetlands, and the long southern coastline.
The gulf is also associated with some of Aesala’s most fragmentary ancient traditions. Long-lived peoples living around its shores, especially wood elves, preserve stories of a civilization that eventually sank beneath the ocean and once worshipped the extraplanar being Visthuun as a god. The surviving accounts are incomplete, and they do not establish whether Visthuun caused, contributed to, or merely became associated with that civilization’s destruction.
Recent exploration has confirmed that extensive structures survive beneath the gulf. The Sunken Ruins of Keravnos include monumental religious architecture, psionically active artifacts, and devices concerned with memory and the transmission of thought. These discoveries demonstrate that the old stories preserve at least the outline of a real civilization, but they have raised more questions than they have answered about its collapse and its relationship with Visthuun.
