Visthuun is an extremely powerful aberration remembered primarily through fragmentary accounts of an ancient civilization that has otherwise been almost completely lost to time. That civilization worshipped Visthuun as a god and placed the being near the center of its religious life, but the surviving evidence does not establish that Visthuun was actually divine. What remains is enough to show extraordinary power and religious importance, but not enough to reconstruct the being’s full nature, motives, or relationship with its worshippers.
Most surviving stories come from exceptionally long-lived peoples, especially wood elves living around the Gulf of Keravnos. Even those traditions preserve little more than fragments. The civilization eventually sank beneath the ocean. Visthuun appears often enough in surviving accounts of its final period to suggest that the being may have been connected to the catastrophe, but what role it played—or whether the destruction was connected to Visthuun at all—remains unknown.
Only recently have submerged ruins attributed to the civilization been discovered. Their investigation is still too new to resolve the contradictions and omissions in the surviving stories, and much of what the civilization itself believed about Visthuun remains inaccessible.
Visthuun is nevertheless not only a figure of remote history. The being is somehow present through an artifact known as the Eye of Visthuun, currently carried by Dizra. The nature and extent of that presence are unclear, and existing knowledge is not sufficient to describe the connection more precisely.
