Pakuley is the capital and largest city of Danto, located on the island’s southern shore at the mouth of the Ondulux River. It is the seat of the Sabha of Danto and the Pradhan of Danto, and the nearby Great Library makes the city one of the most important centers of scholarship on Kor Sirok.
Pakuley’s position at the mouth of the Ondulux places the city where an important inland waterway meets the Mitan Sea. Its political and scholarly roles have also made it Danto’s principal point of contact with the wider world. Merchants, pilgrims, foreign scholars, travelers, and returning Oghmian monks pass through the city in far greater numbers than they do through most other Dantari settlements. This gives Pakuley a more cosmopolitan character than the smaller communities of the island without making it culturally separate from them.
The city’s growth has not entirely displaced the building traditions seen elsewhere on Danto. Local stone, existing slopes, waterways, vegetation, and the contours of the land remain important to its architecture, even where the concentration of people requires denser construction. Government buildings, religious institutions, homes, markets, and facilities serving visitors therefore developed within the landscape rather than around a single monumental plan.
Pakuley is important to Danto, but it does not politically dominate the island simply because it is the largest settlement. The representative structure of the Sabha preserves participation by smaller communities, and much of Danto’s social and religious life remains distributed among villages and monasteries beyond the capital. Pakuley is the place where national institutions, foreign contact, and the Great Library are most concentrated rather than the place from which every aspect of Dantari life is directed.
