Inis Faerna is the largest island in the Skyre Islands and the principal territorial base of Asnorland. The Stadtholder holds the Thegndom of Inis Faerna directly, and the kingdom’s capital, Vrungend, stands on the island at the Bay of Bryn. The island’s size and concentration of settlements make it the political center of Asnorland without making it representative of every part of the archipelago.
A substantial mountain region occupies much of the island’s southwestern and interior country, while lower river-cut terrain extends toward several of the settled coasts. Numerous rivers descend from the higher ground, creating natural corridors through an island whose interior can otherwise be difficult to cross. The combination of mountains, river valleys, and long coastlines produces considerable local variation in climate and terrain despite Inis Faerna lying within the colder southern half of the archipelago.
Cain Tiarnach is associated with Inis Faerna and retains traditional territories beyond the main Asnor settlements. The coexistence of Cain Tiarnach and the Asnor crown reflects the wider pattern of the Skyre Islands: Asnor authority is strongest around ports, towns, roads, and defended holdings, while Skyre communities remain deeply rooted in interior places that were never simply absorbed into the kingdom. Conflict between the two peoples shaped the island from the first Asnor settlement onward, but periods of trade and practical coexistence have become possible since the general peace of 8661 SE.
Vrungend is the island’s largest settlement and the seat of the Stadtholder. Other established settlements include Dragshus, Hagvik, Osfjord, Osheim, Oskarhamn, and Randskou. Their distribution around the island reflects the importance of coastal travel and river access in a landscape where long overland journeys can be considerably more difficult than movement by ship.
