The Mythic Era is the second major historical era recognized in the Calendar of Kor Sirok. It began after the destruction of the Qhalleess Empire in the Twilight War and ended with the Sundering. Mythic Era dates are commonly expressed using ME.
The early Mythic Era was a period of recovery and transformation. Qhalleess no longer dominated the world, while many of the magical systems and institutions upon which the empire had depended had either vanished or become unusable. New peoples and states developed within those changed conditions, gradually establishing magical, religious, and political traditions of their own.
The formation of The Confluence helped shape the magical environment of the era. Arcane practice became increasingly capable of accumulating dependable traditions of study, while strong relationships between the physical universe and the wider planes allowed divine and extraplanar influence to remain far more immediate than it would be in later history.
The Huraz Confederation eventually became the defining great power of the era. Its priesthoods developed forms of cooperative divine ritual capable of sustaining civic works on an enormous scale, including the systems associated with Qaranth, Zhar Qazir, and the waters of the Majra. Extensive planar contact also made travel, trade, religious interaction, and large magical works possible on a scale that later civilizations often struggled to reproduce.
Those conditions eventually contributed to the catastrophe that ended the era. When the ancient Twilight Veil weakened and another incursion from beyond Creation threatened Kor Sirok, Naevra and the gods intervened through the Sundering. The relationships between Kor Sirok’s physical universe and the wider planes were deliberately weakened, making planar travel far more difficult and direct divine manifestation all but impossible.
The consequences were severe enough to mark a fundamental historical boundary. Civilizations survived, but the assumptions under which the great works of the Mythic Era had been created no longer held. The period that followed became known as the Shattered Era.
