The Nine Archons of Arkrist form the leadership of the city government. Three positions are elected—the Eponymous Archon, Polemarch, and Basileus—and together they are known as the triumvirate. The other six positions are the appointed Junior Archons, with two selected by each member of the triumvirate.
The elected Archons are chosen from the Synod. The elected Archons serve six-year terms, with one of the three senior offices coming up for election every two years. Although Arkrist maintains the forms of free elections, the eleven noble families exercise strong control over who runs and who wins. By 8753 SE, an unspoken practice had developed in which control of the offices rotated among the noble families. Klelthar Zrakul was elected Eponymous Archon in 8788 SE. The current record does not establish who held the office after the election due at the end of 8793 SE.
