Thorgest Iarlsson was the Stadtholder of Asnorland from 8661 SE until his assassination in 8723 SE. He inherited the office at only thirteen years of age after the death of his father, making the advisers and nobles around the young ruler unusually important during the opening years of his reign.
The most enduring achievement associated with Thorgest’s rule was the peace negotiated with the Skyre Folk in 8661 SE. The agreement ended the general war that had defined Asnor-Skyre relations for centuries, although it did not eliminate raids, reprisals, disputed boundaries, or local violence. Thorgest remained strongly associated with maintaining that settlement, and several later political figures were judged in part by whether they supported or opposed the accommodation established during his reign.
By the early 8720s, Séamus Lorcáin served as one of Thorgest’s closest advisers and often acted as the Stadtholder’s voice. In 8723 SE Thorgest was poisoned. Lorcáin was later identified as responsible and was believed to have acted in concert with Ulrik Lindvig, whose claim to succeed Thorgest immediately became one of the central causes of the Asnor Succession War of 8723 SE.
Thorgest’s death therefore ended a reign remembered for relative political stability and a major reduction in open conflict with the Skyre Folk, while also exposing how quickly Asnorland’s decentralized political structure could fracture when the succession itself became disputed.
