Ornolf Varsson was the Thegn of Inis Nuadha during the Asnor Succession War of 8723 SE. Contemporary descriptions characterize him as slow to anger and tactically minded. He was also one of the strongest noble supporters of Thorgest Iarlsson’s peace with the Skyre Folk, a position that distinguished him during a period when many Asnor leaders still regarded cooperation with the Cains with suspicion.
Inis Nuadha possessed some of the best-trained regional forces among the Thegndoms, although Asnor political custom meant that many of those soldiers ultimately belonged to Jarls and local commands rather than to Ornolf personally. Committing them to a major campaign therefore required political support as well as military orders. During the succession crisis, Ornolf resisted Ulrik Lindvig’s claim and eventually supported Cap Tan Ro’geers alongside Dandod Herfsson.
Ornolf’s court was also closely connected to the changes surrounding arcane magic in Asnorland. Whittaker Morganna had served as his Skald before being framed for betrayal and exiled. During the succession crisis, Ornolf and Whittaker supported the establishment of a College Arcanum academy at Bregentved, creating an institution that survived the war and gradually changed Asnor attitudes toward trained arcane practitioners.
