The Cliffside Temple is an ancient ruin cut into the coastal cliffs northwest of Squall’s End. Its monumental outer doors are opened by burning fires in great stone bowls, but the complex beyond them is less a conventional temple than a fusion of ritual architecture, laboratory, and magical engineering facility.
Inside, old conduits, valves, crystal machinery, sealed chambers, and protective amulets still interact with one another despite the site’s immense age. At least one engine was connected to a portal opening onto an endless sky, while deeper systems included rotating machinery, arcane barriers, and mechanisms that responded to blood, language, and specific objects. The complex also contained evidence of biological experimentation, including preserved or altered remains and records suggesting that living creatures were manipulated alongside magical machinery.
A sealed lower vault contained the corpse of Voslostro, one of the people sought during the investigation of Koriana Ipswitch. The vault could be opened only through a combination of the site’s control amulet, an old command word, and Voslostro’s blood. The site’s builders, original religious affiliation, and reason for combining planar machinery with biological experimentation remain unresolved.
