Olath Belanore is a predominantly Drow city in the Underdark beneath Patoris. Like other deep settlements, it is politically independent rather than part of a unified Underdark civilization, and its institutions should not be assumed to match those of other Drow cities such as Terl’Narquel.
Olath Belanore has historically been governed through a matriarchal aristocracy organized around noble houses. House Glannath was among the most powerful of those houses and was described in surviving accounts from the late 87th century SE as the city’s third house. The details of the wider hierarchy, the number of houses, and the balance among them are not well preserved in current records.
The same period also preserves evidence of slavery within the city. House Glannath held enslaved Deep Gnomes, including the family of Abendigo, who escaped while he was still a child. These records establish part of Olath Belanore’s historical social order without demonstrating that every institution or practice documented in that period remains unchanged in the present day.
