Séamus Lorcáin was a senior adviser and seneschal to Thorgest Iarlsson during the final years of Thorgest’s reign as Stadtholder of Asnorland. He frequently acted as the ruler’s public voice and possessed enough authority within the court that his statements carried unusual weight among the Jarls of Inis Faerna.

In 8723 SE, Lorcáin poisoned Thorgest. He was believed to have acted in coordination with Ulrik Lindvig, the Thegn of Inis Markul, and after Thorgest’s death he assured local nobles that a succession plan existed. Lorcáin produced documents purporting to show that Thorgest had designated Ulrik as his successor, but opponents of the claim regarded them as fraudulent.

Lorcáin also moved against people expected to resist Ulrik’s accession. Members of the Crimson Company, including Hersir Kodiak Popo, were imprisoned during the opening stages of the crisis. His control of the capital was broken when the Mistborn and their allies retook Vrungend and freed the imprisoned Reds.

Lorcáin was captured and imprisoned. Ulrik escaped the defeat at Vrungend and continued the war from Inis Markul, so the imprisonment of Lorcáin did not itself end the Asnor Succession War of 8723 SE.
