Trinswood is a small village in Scarsholm, situated just inside the edge of Scarsholm Forest west of Elgaard. In the early 8750s it was a working timber settlement whose economy centered on a water-powered lumber mill, small farms, and the ordinary services needed by a rural community rather than on long-distance trade or travelers.
Two principal roads connected the village to the surrounding region. One ran northwest beside a stream toward Rinfield, while another crossed a worn bridge and continued east toward Elgaard. The stream also powered the large wooden water wheel at the lumber mill on the north side of town, whose gears and saws dominated the soundscape during the working day.
Village Center
Trinswood’s largest civic building was its town hall, a substantial structure with a stone foundation and dark oak doors overlooking the modest central square. A covered stone well stood nearby, and the town master’s residence lay just to the north behind a small stone wall and garden. The town master was appointed by the Lord of Scarsholm, tying the village to the surrounding noble estate while leaving most daily concerns local.
Around the square were a smithy, a temple to Mezra, an orchard, an apothecary, and a bakery. Most residents lived in simple wooden houses between the square and the mill. Small farms extended south of the village, and the stumps around newer clearings showed the gradual expansion of settlement into the surrounding forest.
The Sawn Log Inn stood south of the main residential area and served as one of Trinswood’s principal gathering places. It was one of the village’s few two-story buildings and had more rooms for travelers than local demand ordinarily required.
The Brass Blades
Trinswood became unexpectedly important to the history of the Brass Blades in 8751 SE. After Luther Mortanas’s agents destroyed the original Brass Bastion in Elgaard, the surviving Blades retreated to the village. An attack on the Sawn Log brought several of the people who would define the rebuilt company together, including Abendigo, Chan Kong-Sang, Hannibal ‘Tusky’, and Darieth Ariessus.
Later that year the Blades began a mining operation north of Trinswood and developed the site into a new fortified Brass Bastion. The project brought money, workers, and armed adventurers into a community that had previously been notable mainly for timber and agriculture, making the village part of the company’s recovery after its near-destruction.
